Hamilton County Math & Science

Summary:

Hamilton County Math & Science is a public charter elementary school serving 633 students in grades PK-8 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The school is part of the Northwest Local school district, which is ranked 554 out of 839 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Academically, Hamilton County Math & Science faces significant challenges. The school's proficiency rates in Math and English Language Arts are generally lower than the state averages and the surrounding schools, such as Colerain Elementary School and Taylor Elementary School. Additionally, the school has experienced high rates of chronic absenteeism, ranging from 15.8% to 22.7% in recent years, which is significantly higher than the state average. As a result, Hamilton County Math & Science has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of Ohio elementary schools, with a ranking between 1094 and 1181 out of 1596-1677 schools in recent years.

However, the school's African American students perform relatively better, ranking in the top 40% of Ohio elementary schools serving African American students. This suggests that the school may be providing effective support and instruction for this student population. To address the school's overall challenges, the district and school leaders could focus on identifying and addressing the root causes of chronic absenteeism, as well as examining the school's curriculum, instructional practices, and resource allocation to identify areas for improvement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is not a perfect school but they really are teaching these students like they would at a private school. My kindergartener is reading! And thee school year is just halfway over. The principal and her husband CARE and they don't tolerate disrespectful behavior. The school is great and in the coming years I see many great things happening. They are certainly on their way upwards. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
