Open Quote I am shocked that I am writing this review as the school has a decent reputation but BEWARE of Maplewood school in Wantagh. Im writing this review to warn other people of my experience. Wish I could leave 0 star review but to post I needed to give how many stars. My experience leaves me knowing that the teachers are unwilling to work with the whole child. My son's teacher was inexperienced and lacked the basic strategies to give young students new social situations. I am questioning if the teachers there possess the appropriate levels of education and training. I found the director, Sheri Holden to be rude, blunt, and lacked direct communication skills. She lacked compassion when speaking about my child and was unwilling to work with myself or my child when there was a need. I urge families considering Maplewood to avoid it. Instead search for a caring school that enjoys working children and understands how to properly engage and teach them effectively. They definitely could have done more for my 3 year old. My son was given no guidance or strategies to improve his interactions with other students. The more upsetting part was I was unaware of the extent of the issues he was having at Maplewood. The even MORE upsetting part is that there was no meeting about this and he was kicked out of the program with NO WARNING. I work in childcare and am very well versed in how situations like this typically happen. This was not handled correctly. I was open and willing to work with the teacher and the program on any issues my son was having. If you have a 3 year old child who needs guidance in sharing, expressing needs and social skills then find a nurturing program where teachers are willing to actually teach them and foster these skills. I mean that's what they are there to do, right? I guess not at Maplewood. Spare yourself and your child the trauma... on a buzzard side note- after What felt like being kicked to the curb The Director Sheri told me she wanted to help me…isn’t it the schools job to try and help the student and the family BEFORE kicking them out of the program. That help before being kicked out never happened. She is a terrible director and has no clue what she is doing. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
