Woods Road Elementary School

Summary:

Woods Road Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades K-5 in the North Babylon Union Free School District in New York, with 328 students. The school has consistently been ranked in the bottom half of New York elementary schools by SchoolDigger, with a 1-star rating out of 5 in recent years.

Woods Road Elementary School consistently underperforms compared to the district and state in standardized test scores for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. The school struggles to support the academic achievement of certain student subgroups, such as female, Hispanic, English Language Learner, Special Education, and Low Socioeconomic Status students. Despite relatively high spending per student and a low student-teacher ratio, the school's academic outcomes have steadily declined over the past decade, with its statewide ranking dropping from 946 out of 2,386 New York elementary schools in 2016-2017 to 2,165 out of 2,445 in 2023-2024.

Interestingly, the other elementary schools in the North Babylon Union Free School District, such as Belmont Elementary School and Parliament Place School, generally outperform Woods Road Elementary School in academic measures, despite serving similar student populations. This suggests that there may be opportunities for Woods Road to learn from the practices and strategies of its higher-performing peers within the district.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I have a 5 yr. child in Kindergarten at this school and I've been very satisfied with the communication between the teachers/administrators/staff and myself, as well as the attention he receives in the classroom. He appears to be learning quite a bit and appears eager to go to school in spite of the long hours Kindergarten students typically log, now. My son also appears to feel safe to explore socially with other children and has made friends. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
