However, the school has seen an increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 31.82% in 2021-2022 to 41.43% in 2022-2023, indicating a growing population of economically disadvantaged students.

Overall, Lindenhurst Senior High School is a well-regarded institution that provides a quality education to its students. The school's focus on academic excellence, low chronic absenteeism, and relatively low student-teacher ratio contribute to its success, but the school may need to address the growing population of economically disadvantaged students and the associated challenges they face.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I moved to the district from Massapequa. I'm Class of 2015. I moved here summer 2011, so I've done 9th grade here and am about to start 10th grade. I'll start with the pros of Lindenhurst High:
-a lot more diverse than Massapequa. I like meeting new people from different backgrounds.
-teachers are very good
-good school spirit
-middle-class, pretty nice student body. A lot less snobby then Massapequa, I'll tell you that!
-the lunch is better than Massapequa's!
-the Drama Club is...indescribably great!
-the Gay-Straight Alliance Club is good...I'm going to be treasurer this year :)
-there are many many different clubs to get involved in
-pretty diverse curriculum.
-the media center is nice and big and the staff is great
And now, we have the Cons....
-school is pretty tolerant towards drugs and illegal activity...in the morning, at the student drop-off on Lewis Ave, there's often a bunch of kids smoking pot, right next to the security guard...:/. Dress code isn't really enforced, either...
-there is a gang presence in the school, albeit not very big.
-my studio art room in 9th grade had a ton of cockroaches
-they recently ruinned the foreign language program...upperclassmen can no longer enroll in French and German as a 2nd LOTE :(
-during a geometry test, my teacher just decided to walk out of the room for a moment, so the class was totally unattended. Everybody just started getting answers from everybody else...weird :/
-some students are very violent
-the district is wayyyy too focused on athletics....
-the science Olympiad team is small and the school doesn't care about it...meanwhile in West Babylon, Farmingdale, even Bay Shore, the Science Olympiad is a big part of school.
-one dean is really good and smart. The other is a total goof. He suspended for 5 days without even checking to see if the kid was in the day of the incident!!!! How stupid!
-the superintendent is a goof, too.
-there are some kids in honors classes who really shouldn't be there and they just annoy the real honors students...
-the guidance department is rather unorganized..
-everybody seems to hate it :/.
Overall, Lindenhurst High School is great if you like sports, but most "nerds" like me really won't like it...LHS is certainly not a failing school, but LHS is certainly not an A+ school either...However I do like this district better than snobby, super un-diverse, and very overrated Massapequa! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
