As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote PS 99 is such a great school for the kids. The teachers and admin are caring, and the parent community is active in its support. The student population is separated into two buildings, one for K-2 and the other for 3-6, which works out well, allowing for a more supportive learning environment for the age groups. The school does a great job with the arts, and constantly brings in programs that gives the children a more well-rounded education. The principal is well respected by staff and parents, and well loved by the students. He brings a strong vision for success at PS 99. His skillful management and open communication style, as well as his constant advocacy for the students' educational and emotional well-being is highly commendable. Close Quote

Open Quote This school is full of dynamic teachers. The K - 2 science teacher & science classroom is incredible. K - 2 kids use a smartboard in their classroom almost everyday. The staff is very friendly. My son feels happy and safe, and is always learning something new in a fun way (He was thrilled to be the sun and watch his buddy spin around him as the earth in Science class.) This school has the potential to be excellent. My # 1 issues with the school are the lack of music education, the use of DVD's instead of recess after lunch and the lack of communication between the administration and the parents about a number of issues. I helped create the website www.ps99community.com to give parents a place to brainstorm ideas and discuss solutions. If interested parents post a question on the discussion board, we will answer it prompty. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
