Mott Hall II

Summary:

Mott Hall II is a public middle school located in New York City's District #3, serving grades 6-8 with an enrollment of 359 students. While the school's statewide ranking has declined in recent years, it still maintains a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger and generally outperforms the district and state averages in academic proficiency, particularly in English Language Arts (ELA).

Mott Hall II's academic performance is a standout, with 61.32% of 8th-grade students proficient or better in ELA, compared to 62.37% in the district and 51.88% statewide. The school also ranks in the top 65 out of 778 New York middle schools for its White student population and in the top 139 out of 381 for its Asian student population. However, the school's performance for African American, Hispanic, and English Language Learner students is more mixed, with lower rankings compared to the overall school. Mott Hall II's relatively low student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending may contribute to its academic success.

Compared to nearby schools in District #3, such as Lafayette Academy and Community Action School-Middle School 258, Mott Hall II's performance is generally stronger. However, the school's performance for its homeless student population is an area of concern, ranking in the bottom 534 out of 594 New York middle schools for this subgroup. Despite its strong academic performance, Mott Hall II's statewide ranking has declined over the years, which may be due to the school's performance relative to other schools in the state improving at a faster rate.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My daughter graduated Mott Hall II and it was the BEST school ever.

"Today's Scholars, Tomorrow's Leaders" is their school motto, and they live by it.
When my daughter was lucky to be accepted we had to attend a very well prepared orientation. There we where introduced to the school staff. They explained who they were, what they do, and how they look to accomplish their goal.. I remember they mentioned knowing "all teens tricks and ways", I just thought it was an odd comment. Soon after the first year it hit me and I realized that middle school is where all the teen drama begins.. Now I understood their comment.
How beautiful it is to leave your child in school and know that they are in great hands. It's a small school. They have a wonderful curriculum. The teachers are extremely knowledgeable and most importantly engaging. They know how to challenge the students. They are firm yet caring. They are personally involved in EACH students life(no child left behind for sure). They know what they're doing, somewhat like psychologist.
Mr Lowe(and his horn)was the dean then and now assistant Principle. He is the BEST. Ms.Gordon a very Knowledgeable guidance counselor who works hard to place all kids in good high schools and great programs. Overall an excellent staff.

When it was all over I was so grateful to the entire school. It was such a healthy environment and wonderful experience. They laid the foundation to my daughters future.
I Love You Mott Hall II!

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
