Carson Montessori

Summary:

Carson Montessori is a public charter elementary school serving 292 students in grades K-6 in Carson City, Nevada. The school has shown fluctuating academic performance over the years, with its statewide ranking ranging from 5-star to 2-star. While the school's overall proficiency rates in math and reading are lower than the district and state averages, its 6th-grade reading proficiency has consistently been higher.

Carson Montessori's academic performance, as measured by SBAC proficiency rates, is generally lower than the nearby public schools in the Carson City district, such as Al Seeliger Elementary and Mark Twain Elementary. However, the school's per-student spending is lower than the nearby public schools, and its student-teacher ratio is similar.

Carson Montessori has a higher percentage of White students (67.81%) compared to the nearby public schools, which have more racially diverse student populations. The school may need to focus on strategies to attract and support a more diverse student body. Overall, Carson Montessori's academic performance and student demographics suggest areas for further investigation and improvement to better serve its community.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Carson City Montessori Charter School has been among the highlights of my Son's youth. It is not just a school it's a special place. Not all schools are able to bring out the best in both convergent and divergent thinkers, but Carson Montessori does. Close Quote

Open Quote small, free, clean and hands on learning for the real world.

We needed an alternative learning environment for our daughter, she has dads bluntness (unable to filter before she speaks) and moms attitude when wanting to do things a different way. we have only had 2 issues with our daughters stubbornness the entire 5 years of school- and not only were they patient with her, we all work together to help her succeed. this school truly is the idea of no child being left behind in all aspects of the child: academia and social behaviors. My daughter has loved many of our home connection assignments, community help events and cant wait to help shop and cook with the 5/6th grades classes. she has even hinted to the idea of joining the legislative group- 6th graders will often visit the state legislature on key issues. hows that for learning! Open Quote The staff at Carson Montessori Charter School is exceptional in every way: Caring, bright, loving, gentle; they do all they can to nurture young minds.

My son absolutely *loves* going to school at Carson Montessori. As parents, we feel blessed that such a school exists.

Amazing that a school this good has no tuition, because it is a public charter school. People elsewhere around the state are paying in the ballpark of $7,000/year to attend a school this good. Close Quote

Open Quote This school has grown way too fast in the past two years, and the principal does not seem very concerned about it. She is about the numbers, not the children. In the beginning when the school was almost half the size, she always had time for the students, staff, and parents. On a couple of occasions in trying to set up a meeting she said she was "too busy". This is not enough. They used to want parents involvement and in talking with other parents they all feel this is not the case anymore. Some parents are just leaving without attempting to talk with the principal. This past year they held one PTO meeting and only sent one report home for the students. There are a lot of parents and staff who are unhappy, but feel trapped and do not speak out. In some grades, students are not allowed to go to the bathroom or get a drink. The staff that is really good is getting suppressed or pushed out. The Montessori style is rarely used if at all, they should not be called a Montessori school. This has become a glorified public school. The site is not updated as to the ranking of this school and that should be done.It is sad that this has happened to this school, in the beginning it seemed to be a blessing, but not anymore. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
