Pinecrest Academy of Nevada Horizon

Summary:

Pinecrest Academy of Nevada Horizon is a public charter elementary school located in Henderson, Nevada, serving 871 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. This school stands out for its exceptional academic performance, consistently outpacing the state and its State Sponsored Charter Schools district in standardized test scores.

In the 2023-2024 school year, 73.6% of Pinecrest students were proficient or better in SBAC Mathematics, compared to 45% for the district and 32.6% for the state of Nevada. The school's reading proficiency rates are also significantly higher, with 63% of students proficient or better in SBAC Reading, compared to 54.1% for the district and 41.3% for the state. While the school's science performance is more mixed, it still ranks among the top elementary schools in Nevada, with a ranking of 48 out of 377 schools in the 2023-2024 school year and a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Interestingly, Clark County public schools in the surrounding area tend to have lower academic performance and higher percentages of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch compared to Pinecrest Academy of Nevada Horizon. This suggests that the school's charter status and educational model may be contributing factors to its success in providing a high-quality education to its diverse student population.

Open Quote I'm in my 4th year of college working towards my BS in Elementary Education. I chose a substitute spot at Pinecrest Horizon for my very first time. The kids were great, but the staff was seriously lacking in people skills. There was not a single friendly/helpful person that I came into contact with. They were rude, cold, and gave me the impression I was not wanted there. I've been a casino manager for 25 years and I've never felt more uncomfortable and unwelcome than I did coming to this school. My kids attend Pinecrest Inspirada which is an amazing school and has amazing staff, but they didn't have any sub. spots needed at the time. I guess Pinecrest Horizon doesn't want, need, or value substitutes and I will never go back to this school, especially when I don't have to. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
