The school has consistently ranked in the bottom quarter of New Jersey middle schools, with a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger, and its academic performance is significantly below state averages.

Winslow Township Middle School's proficiency rates on state assessments are alarmingly low, with only 38.5% of 7th graders and 38.1% of 8th graders proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to state averages of 55.7% and 55.3%, respectively. When compared to nearby middle schools, such as Charles W. Lewis Middle School and Voorhees Middle School, Winslow Township Middle School significantly underperforms across various metrics, including test scores, subgroup performance, and overall school rankings. These findings suggest that the school faces significant challenges in terms of student engagement, access to resources, and overall academic support, which likely contribute to its consistently poor performance compared to state and regional averages.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is simply atrocious. The students behave like wild animals, both in the hallways and in class, especially when a substitute is in the class. Constant loud talking, screaming, and shouting as if they are at a stadium. It is often impossible for well-behaved, interested students to learn given all the madness that happens in class. This is highly unfair and unjust. My daughter complained so much that I asked my brother to apply to be a substitute so I could find out almost firsthand. She hadn't exaggerated. As my brother saw, if parents could see the madness in the school, they would all immediately remove their kids if at all possible. I feel sorry for any students who must suffer through that jungle environment he shared with me. We took the hit and got loans to put our child in private school. No one at the school does anything about the behavior problems. The students run the school and are permitted to act wild and crazy. It should not be acceptable. Blame must lie on the principal and the school board. This school needs many more male managers on site to control the student body. It needs 10 to 20 big males in the hallways at all times to monitor hallways and classrooms for out of control behavior and students must be punished. My brother said the school takes an entirely lax attitude toward the stupid student antics and behavior. I cannot see how any good permanent teacher continues to work in that constant chaos. They probably don't. So, as parents, you must know that your child is not getting a good education at this horrific school. Avoid it at all costs. It's a horror movie taking place at a school. Anyone rating this school above a 2 must be taken with a grain of salt. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
