Millville Public Charter School

Summary:

Millville Public Charter School is an elementary school serving 310 students in grades K-8 in Millville, New Jersey, a district ranked 599 out of 615 in the state with a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school faces significant challenges, with a student population that is predominantly African American (48.71%) and Hispanic (35.81%), consistently low academic performance in the bottom 10-15% of New Jersey elementary schools, and high rates of chronic absenteeism reaching nearly 40% in the 2021-2022 school year.

Compared to nearby public schools like Rieck Avenue Elementary, Holly Heights Elementary, and Mount Pleasant Elementary, Millville Public Charter School consistently underperforms in academic proficiency, attendance, and student-teacher ratios. The school's ranking and performance have also steadily declined over the past several years, from a high of 735 out of 1,346 New Jersey elementary schools in 2015-2016 to its current ranking of 1,274 out of 1,342 in 2022-2023.

The high rates of free and reduced-price lunch eligibility at Millville Public Charter School, which have decreased from 73.71% in 2020-2021 to 28.71% in 2022-2023, suggest that the school may be serving a population with significant socioeconomic challenges. This, combined with the school's lack of diversity compared to the nearby Vineland Public School District and Millville School District, indicates a need for more equitable access to educational opportunities across the region.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Horrible school ! The staff is very rude. I've talked to my sons teacher numerous of times about him being bullied and nothing ever gets done. I also talked to his teacher about him falling behind in math he told me that the teacher goes to fast for him. She told me that she had 16 other students in her class and she can't pause her class for one student when I am friends with his classmates mother and she said that her daughter is falling behind in math and she got told the same thing. That is their teacher her JOB is to TEACH them. If she needs to go over something a second time for her STUDENTS to LEARN I don't see what the problem is. My suggestion to anyone considering this school would be to look at other options. Any other option. My son will not be attending this school next year. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
