Sandy Creek Elementary School

Summary:

Sandy Creek Elementary School is a public elementary school in Fairfield, Nebraska, serving 209 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the South Central Nebraska Unified 5 District, which is ranked 156 out of 212 districts in the state.

Sandy Creek Elementary has a higher percentage of white students (79.9%) compared to the state average (68.3%), and a lower percentage of Hispanic students (13.4%) compared to the state (21.6%). Academically, the school outperforms the district and state averages in 5th grade NSCAS/Mathematics (76% proficient) and NSCAS/Science (70% proficient). However, the school has a relatively high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (45.93%), which is higher than the state average. Despite this, Sandy Creek's low-income students perform exceptionally well, ranking 60th out of 312 Nebraska elementary schools.

Interestingly, Sandy Creek Elementary's statewide ranking has declined over the years, from 170th out of 442 Nebraska elementary schools in 2020-2021 to 277th out of 459 in 2022-2023, despite its strong academic performance. This may be due to a shift in the school's racial demographics, with a decrease in white students and an increase in Hispanic students. Compared to nearby schools like Sutton Elementary School, Sandy Creek has a higher percentage of low-income students but performs better academically. However, the school's declining spending per student, from $19,613 in 2020-2021 to $18,316 in 2022-2023, may present challenges in the future.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The elementary school teaching program is great. My kids now have two teachers to utilize as resources instead of just one. It is great to hear how my kids are doing and to have it verified by both teachers. Also the kids seem to be more engaged in classes this year than any other year. There are also programs available for those kids that want to participate. Examples would include, sports, band, and chess clubs to name a few. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
