Leesville Road Elementary

Summary:

Leesville Road Elementary is a public elementary school in Raleigh, North Carolina, serving 603 students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The school is part of the Wake County Schools district, which is ranked 59th out of 242 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating.

Leesville Road Elementary consistently outperforms the state and district averages in standardized test scores across all grade levels and subject areas. The school's White and Hispanic student subgroups perform exceptionally well, ranking in the top 5% and top 25% of North Carolina elementary schools, respectively. However, the school's African American student subgroup has struggled, ranking in the bottom 33% of North Carolina elementary schools in recent years. Leesville Road Elementary has a relatively low percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with only 30.35% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, significantly lower than nearby schools like Lead Mine Elementary (50%) and Lynn Road Elementary (54.66%).

Interestingly, Leesville Road Elementary outperforms nearby schools, such as Lead Mine Elementary, Lynn Road Elementary, and Baileywick Road Elementary, in academic performance across all grade levels and subject areas. This is likely due to the school's higher socioeconomic status, lower percentage of economically disadvantaged students, and more favorable student-teacher ratio. However, the school's performance in the Gifted and Talented student subgroup has been mixed, suggesting the need for further evaluation and support for high-achieving students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school is amazing! All of the teachers and the administration are phenomenal. They are so supportive and all about being a family. I couldn't ask for a better experience for my child. Thank you Leesville for everything you do! Close Quote

Open Quote Current principal is ruining this school that was once very good. He calls all the time often during dinner which is annoying. He spends more time practicing his speech for his phone messages than worrying about the students and the scores which are going down. The school was become run down with weeds including poison ivy, high grass, and looks like a mud hole when it rains because a lot of the grass is gone. He wants free volunteers all the time and wants your money for fundraisers but he is missing what really matters. Glad one of my kids are out of there and the other will be soon. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
