As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote ROCS is a wonderful school where every child is encouraged to be themself and to grow. You can see that its overall grades suffered in the pandemic, but that makes sense to me because Public Waldorf is very hands-on and doesn't translate to virtual learning (it would be like taking a chemistry lab class or a pottery class via Zoom). But the school has gotten back on track now, and my kid, in particular, has shown tremendous growth. I am thankful for their small class sizes, art- and play-centered lesson plans that keep my kid up and moving around, and their emphasis on teaching every child individually. Also, they have 2 recesses a day! Close Quote

Open Quote We withdrew our child after 1 year due to the lack of Waldorf educational philosophy being even loosely adhered to. Most of the teachers left on their own after that same year, and some other actual good teachers were forced out by the leadership (or lack thereof). This school is the reason that charter schools get a bad wrap. They start with a good vision, but lack of experience running a school and understanding how to balance standards versus the charter's goals are seldom realized successfully. The BOD at Raleigh Oak Charter did an absolute horrible job communicating with families, and a worse job at providing their teachers with the proper training to be effective. Close Quote

Open Quote The idea might have been good but execution is awful. Too many teachers and administrators focused on the wrong parts of “Waldorf” ideas that are outdated and trivial rather than taking the core principles that matter. Found many teachers to lack an formal educational training. Way too many parents sent their children there thinking it would be a good fit for those who were struggling at more traditional schools. Administration knew the number of children coming in with IEPs and were woefully unprepared and negligent. For the sake of the students school should shut down and try again with better leaders and teachers. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
