Pine Creek School

Summary:

Pine Creek School is a small elementary school in Livingston, Montana, serving grades PK-5 with just 25 students. Despite its small size, this school stands out as a high-performing institution, consistently outperforming the state and its local Livingston Elementary District in academic proficiency.

One key factor that sets Pine Creek School apart is its strong academic performance. In the 2022-2023 school year, 66.67% of students were proficient or better in Mathematics, compared to 63.64% for the Livingston Elementary District and 36.59% for the state of Montana. Similarly, 58.33% of students were proficient or better in Reading, outpacing the district's 54.55% and the state's 46.03%. This consistent academic excellence has earned Pine Creek School a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger and a ranking among the top 44 elementary schools in Montana.

While Pine Creek School's academic success is impressive, the school's student population is notably less diverse than nearby schools like Arrowhead School and B.A. Winans School, which have a more balanced racial makeup. Additionally, despite having a lower spending per student compared to the nearby Malmborg School, Pine Creek School is able to achieve strong academic results, suggesting efficient resource allocation. The school's small size, with only 25 students, may also contribute to its personalized learning environment and academic success.

Open Quote Pine Creek School is actually K-8. It probably should be K-6 as the wonderful benefits of a mixed-age learning atmosphere start to lose their relative value when students reach grades 7 and 8. The exceptional teachers have everything they need to provide for elementary students, but lack any kind of physical education, industrial arts, science lab or other non-basic facilities that schools with greater resources take for granted. The fact that parents from surrounding districts seek out the special environment of Pine Creek School adds tremendously to the positive atmosphere, and the school board goes through cycles of dark ages and renaissance, as I suppose most do. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
