Jumpertown High School

Summary:

Jumpertown High School is an alternative public school serving grades PK-12 in Booneville, Mississippi, with a student population of 325. The school is part of the Prentiss County School District, which is ranked 35 out of 130 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating. Jumpertown High School has a predominantly White (87.08%) student population and an exceptionally high percentage of students (over 99%) receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

Jumpertown High School stands out for its strong performance in Algebra I and Biology end-of-course exams, with proficiency rates around 80% or higher in recent years, outperforming the state and district averages. However, the school's English Language Arts proficiency rates tend to be lower than the state and district averages, particularly in the upper grades, which could be an area for improvement. When compared to nearby schools like Wheeler High School and Thrasher High School, Jumpertown High School has a slightly higher percentage of free/reduced lunch students and generally stronger performance in Algebra I and Biology, but lower performance in English Language Arts.

Jumpertown High School's declining English Language Arts proficiency rates over the past few years, with some grades dropping from the 30-40% range to the 15-25% range, is a concerning trend that the school should focus on improving. Overall, Jumpertown High School serves a highly economically disadvantaged student population, but it has some notable strengths, such as its performance in Algebra I and Biology, while its relatively lower performance in English Language Arts is an area that warrants further attention and improvement efforts.

Open Quote in my opinion, Jumpertown High School is the greatest school ever. we always have fun but learn something new every day. no one is left out. we're like one big family. everyone is always there for everyone else. We are able to share our thoughts with everyone else and everyone always has someone else to lean on for support. In all honesty, Jumpertown's academic levels are superior to others as i see from my point of view. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
