Pass Road Elementary School

Summary:

Pass Road Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Gulfport, Mississippi, part of the Gulfport School District. The school has seen a shift in its student racial makeup, with the percentage of African American students decreasing and the percentage of White students increasing in recent years.

Pass Road Elementary has shown strong performance in test scores, particularly in 5th grade English Language Arts and Science, where students outperformed the state average. However, the school has a very high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage among the student population. The student-teacher ratio at Pass Road Elementary has improved over the years, decreasing to 14.1 in 2022-2023, which is lower than the district and state averages.

When compared to other elementary schools in the Gulfport School District, Pass Road Elementary generally performs on par or slightly below the district averages in test scores, but still outperforms the state in many areas. However, the school's performance lags behind that of the highest-performing school in the district, Anniston Avenue Elementary, which consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in Mississippi.

Their Kindergarten/1st grade class let's children who are advanced in their skills be able to learn and advance their learning at a faster pace. Open Quote In 2011, the Mississippi Department of Education selected the Gulfport School District as one of three school districts to participate in a pilot program called Excellence for All. As part of this program, selected school districts were given the opportunity to develop innovative programs for their students that would prepare them to compete on a national and global setting in the core subjects as well as improve students' career and college readiness. Due to a major shift from Mississippi Curriculum Standards to Common Core State Standards, the data on this site does not reflect this shift. Please see the Gulfport School District's website to see actual testing information for the Gulfport School District. (You may also sign up to follow us on Twitter.)

A highly functional school district, the District's selection as a pilot program represents the progressive and passionate commitment to be internationally competitive as the community and district work to meet the mission of the Gulfport School District.

The mission of the Gulfport School District is to inspire each student to become a problem solver, lifelong learner, and productive member of society. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
