R.H. Long Booneville Middle School

Summary:

R.H. Long Booneville Middle School is a public middle school serving grades 5-8 in Booneville, Mississippi, part of the Lee County School District, which is ranked 14 out of 130 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating.

This high-performing middle school consistently outperforms the state and nearby schools like Corinth Middle School and Alcorn Central Middle School in academic metrics such as MAAP (Mississippi Academic Assessment Program) test scores. With a student population of 420 and a predominantly White (66.19%) student body, the school has maintained a strong 4-star rating from SchoolDigger and a ranking in the top 25% of Mississippi middle schools. Its relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.1 to 13.8 over the past three years, is another indicator of its academic excellence.

However, the school faces unique challenges, as it serves a student population with an exceptionally high percentage (over 99%) of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high level of economic disadvantage. Despite this, the school's academic performance remains strong, suggesting an effective educational program. Yet, the school's lower spending per student ($4,148 in 2018-2019) compared to nearby schools may indicate a need for additional resources to support its high-performing students and maintain its high level of achievement.

Open Quote the school seems to be ran well from a office stand point.
Although the kids are all selling and doing vapes and fighting in the bathrooms. you can tell teachers and nothing seems to get done. Also the teachers send work home but are not available thru email to help with it. Not all kids learn the same way. Covid has shown how lazy booneville school teachers have gotten. You almost get a sense that they act as we owe them something Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
