Jj Hill Montessori

Summary:

Jj Hill Montessori is a public magnet elementary school in Saint Paul, Minnesota, serving 353 students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. While the school has a relatively diverse student population, its academic performance, as measured by standardized tests, is generally lower than the state and district averages.

Jj Hill Montessori's student body is 52.12% White, 23.51% African American, 6.52% Hispanic, 3.68% Asian, and 13.88% two or more races. This diversity is higher than some nearby schools, such as Randolph Heights Elementary and St. Paul School of Northern Lights. However, the school's proficiency rates in math, reading, and science on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA-III) are below the state and Saint Paul Public Schools district averages for all grades. Additionally, there are significant disparities in performance between the school's student subgroups, with African American and low-income students performing significantly lower than their peers.

Jj Hill Montessori's academic performance is generally lower than nearby schools, such as Capitol Hill Magnet/Rondo and Randolph Heights Elementary, which have higher proficiency rates on the MCA-III assessments. The school's high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch (44.76%) may indicate that it faces challenges related to socioeconomic factors and resource allocation, which could be impacting student learning and achievement. As a Montessori school, Jj Hill Montessori may also have a unique educational approach that could contribute to its performance in ways not fully captured by standardized test data.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Terrible. Most of the teachers are unexperienced and don't understand the students. They claim to stand up against bullying, and they even won an award for it! But almost half of the student population is bullies. Close Quote

Open Quote It is a good school if you get one of the good teachers. More rookies now. Lots of.visible Infighting between staff. Two teacher regularly bully kids and the others just stay silent. PTO is overbearing and runs the show if you are not a joiner and can't be a visible presence you will not be taken seriously. A few parents have really ruined the school and stirred up tons of trouble. They hang out at the school and drink coffee like it was Starbucks. Too many special favors granted to financially generous parents. PTO is very competitive about fund raising not community but they talk a good game

Special Ed students are seen a problems and some school staff talk loudly about the kids that don't fit in. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
