iCampus Virtual Learning School

Summary:

iCampus Virtual Learning School is an alternative public virtual school located in Clinton Twp, MI, serving grades K-12 with a total enrollment of 277 students. The school is part of the Clintondale Community Schools district, which is ranked 577 out of 610 districts in Michigan and has a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

The student population at iCampus Virtual Learning School is predominantly African American (48.38% in 2022-2023), with a significant White population (34.66% in 2022-2023) and smaller percentages of other racial groups. The school has seen a steady increase in its four-year graduation rate, from 28.5% in 2018-2019 to 45.3% in 2022-2023, but it still remains significantly lower than the state average. Additionally, the school has had high dropout rates, ranging from 15.3% to 35.7% over the past five years, which are much higher than the state average. The school's chronic absenteeism rate has fluctuated between 5.7% and 8.7% over the past four years, which is higher than the state average.

When compared to nearby alternative schools, such as Turning Point Academy and Harper Woods Virtual Academy, iCampus Virtual Learning School has higher graduation rates and lower dropout rates, but still struggles with academic performance and high levels of economic disadvantage, with over 80% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. The school's spending per student has varied significantly over the past four years, ranging from $5,574 to $39,894, which is higher than the state average, likely due to the unique challenges of operating a virtual school and the need to invest in technology and infrastructure to support online learning.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote This school likes to pretend that they really care about the students, but what they really care about is how much money that can get for the business. They get money for every kid that attends school for the first month of the school year. During that time, they work very hard to get kids into school and do whatever they can to show kids that they will help them academically. Once that month is over, they no longer care if the staff keeps calling kids to come in or how long a kid stays for the day. They could care less about the students, all they see is dollar signs. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
