Noble High School

Summary:

Noble High School is a public high school located in North Berwick, Maine, serving grades 8-12 with a total enrollment of 1,201 students. The school is part of the Regional School Unit 60/Maine School Admin District 60, which is ranked 85 out of 177 districts in Maine and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Noble High School has maintained a relatively high four-year graduation rate, ranging from 91.6% to 93.8% over the past three years, the school has experienced a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, from 18.4% in 2020-2021 to 27.9% in 2021-2022 and 22.9% in 2022-2023. This is higher than the state average and several nearby schools, such as York High School (16.6%) and Wells High School (20.2%). Additionally, Noble High School's performance on state assessments (MEA) has been mixed, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts (61.66%) and Mathematics (33.26%) in 2022-2023 being lower than the state averages and the scores of its district.

Another notable aspect of Noble High School is its racial makeup, with a significantly higher percentage of white students (90.76%) compared to the state average and nearby schools. This lack of diversity may have implications for the school's culture, curriculum, and support for minority students. When compared to other high schools in the region, such as Kennebunk High School and York High School, Noble High School appears to lag behind in certain metrics, including statewide ranking, test scores, and graduation rates, suggesting areas for improvement and opportunities to learn from the practices of higher-performing schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote When I transferred to this school after my family moved to the area, the very first thing a recent graduate told me was "I'm so sorry".

He was correct. I graduated in 2017 and out of every school I've gone to I can say I am ashamed I graduated from this one. Close Quote

Open Quote I went here and it was AWFUL. I dropped out for 6 months (when it wasn't legal )and they didn't care, didn't try to contact my dad about it or anything. The teachers targeted me because I had a 504 and treated me like I was stupid. The administration doesn't do anything about bullying or fighting, they let the bully get away and the victim gets punished. Even after I transferred to a new school, I was going to prom with my boyfriend. I messaged the prom prep person and she called me stupid. This school is terrible. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
