Wayside Elementary

Summary:

Wayside Elementary is a highly-rated public elementary school in Potomac, Maryland that serves students from pre-kindergarten through 5th grade as part of the Montgomery County Public Schools district. With a diverse student population, Wayside consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in Maryland, earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Wayside Elementary's students significantly outperform their peers in Fallsmead Elementary, Lakewood Elementary, and Stone Mill Elementary on standardized tests, with 86.8% proficient or better in English Language Arts and 78.1% in Mathematics, compared to 55.3% and 33.4% in the district, respectively. The school also ranks highly for the performance of specific student groups, such as 4th out of 796 elementary schools for female students and 12th out of 128 for Asian students.

Wayside Elementary's success can be attributed to its strong commitment to providing a high-quality education. The school spends significantly more per student than the state average, with a low student-teacher ratio of 15 to 1. This investment in resources and small class sizes likely contribute to Wayside's consistently high academic performance, which has earned it a reputation as one of the top elementary schools in Maryland.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My son went to a pep program in that school. Teachers and assistants were so great to him. He learned so much and never cried her to g on the bus. He will continue to attend this school for another couple of years I was told. I really liked how well he was treated. It has been a great experience for him so it has been for us his parents as well. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
