Twinbrook Elementary

Summary:

Twinbrook Elementary is a public elementary school in Rockville, Maryland, serving 489 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Montgomery County Public Schools district, which is ranked 7th out of 25 districts in Maryland.

Despite having a relatively low student-teacher ratio and higher per-student spending compared to nearby schools, Twinbrook Elementary has consistently ranked in the bottom half of Maryland elementary schools for the past 10 years. The school's performance on state assessments is significantly lower than the district and state averages, particularly for Hispanic, English Language Learner, and Special Education student subgroups. In the 2023-2024 school year, Twinbrook's proficiency rates were 27% in mathematics and 28.9% in English Language Arts, compared to 33.4% and 55.3% for the district, and 24.1% and 48.4% for the state.

Nearby schools, such as Wheaton Woods Elementary and Luxmanor Elementary, demonstrate higher academic performance and better student outcomes, providing a useful benchmark for Twinbrook Elementary to aspire to. Understanding the factors that contribute to the success of these higher-performing schools could inform strategies for improvement at Twinbrook Elementary, which faces significant challenges in addressing the unique needs of its diverse and economically disadvantaged student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote If there was a school that cared about their students' anymore than Twinbrook Elementary, it wouldn't be labeled as such; it would be considered as a HOME and a FAMILY. It is the kind of reassurance that you can't put a value on. Especially when it comes to our children. The teachers' and staff members provide a very nurturing atmosphere where, regardless of each child's strengths and/or weaknesses, each individual can develop at a pace and rate that both the parents and students are comfortable. Twinbrook Elementary has everything a parent could ask for. An adaptive, professional and forward thinking administration. A staff of teachers and para-educators alike that provide just the right blend of subject learning and personality specific attention that their student body needs. Before and after school care programs and activities that so strongly influence our young and enable their parents to carry on a manageable work schedule are available as well. Long story short, I just want to say thank you TWINBROOK. Not sure where the name came from, but this school is certainly more unique than it would indicate. There really is only one, and I couldn't be prouder of the school's efforts and my confidence in their ability to develop and mentor.

I would like to also extend appreciation and specifically acknowledge Ms. Lia Williams for the strength of her efforts and the genuine personality and care she exhibits everyday. Mongtomery County, Twinbrook, I and our children are very lucky to have her. Close Quote

Open Quote Twinbrook ES, is a school where the majority of the Latino parents do not get involved with their children school learning upbringing. I personally believe that the school is not doing enough to interest parents with language barriers and cultural differences to change this behavior and therefore I attribute this chronic reality to the lack of professional leadership in the areas of cultural awareness and ethnicity relationship, starting with the Principal. The negative developmental growth among all children in grades K-5th centers initially around the shortage of an adequate budget in a moderate-to-low income neighborhood and poor management from educational leaders. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
