Summary:

Brooklyn Park Middle is a public magnet middle school in Baltimore, Maryland, serving 775 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools district, which is ranked 10th out of 25 districts in Maryland.

While Brooklyn Park Middle's overall academic performance is in the middle range for Maryland, it underperforms compared to nearby schools like Marley Middle, Corkran Middle School, and Lindale Middle. The school's strengths lie in its strong performance on the MCAP Algebra I exam, where 83.9% of students were proficient or better, and the relatively strong performance of its African American student subgroup. However, the school's Hispanic, White, and special education students perform significantly lower than the state and district averages.

Brooklyn Park Middle has a diverse student population, with a higher percentage of White (37.81%) and Hispanic (25.03%) students compared to the surrounding schools. The school also has a high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 60.8% to 69.94% over the past three school years, which is significantly higher than the nearby Arbutus Middle and Lansdowne Middle. The school's spending per student is relatively high, ranging from $15,665 to $16,507 over the past three school years, but still lower than the more distant Elkridge Landing Middle in the Howard County Public Schools district.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote If I could give this school a 0 I would. This school is absolutely atrocious the teens that go there are unruly and fight and bully constantly to any easy target there are multiple families I know that opted to move out of this area just because of the middle School issues the kids come out cussing fighting yelling other obscenities the teachers are completely unaware of what goes on in their classes when their backs are turned! They never hold the kid that’s the issue accountable in turn they move the kid whose bullied instead of the bully themselves. Do not send your child here if you have a choice. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
