Wampatuck Elementary

Summary:

Wampatuck Elementary is a high-performing public elementary school located in Scituate, Massachusetts, serving grades PK-5 with a student population of 454. The school consistently ranks among the top elementary schools in the state, with exceptional academic achievement and strong support for students with special needs and disabilities.

Wampatuck Elementary's academic performance is truly impressive, with MCAS proficiency rates significantly higher than the state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school's proficiency rates were 52.22% in ELA, 63.33% in Math, and 70.31% in Science, compared to the state averages of 39.17%, 40.91%, and 41.95%, respectively. This consistent high performance has earned the school rankings as high as 10th out of 936 schools in Massachusetts, a testament to the school's effective teaching practices and support systems.

While Wampatuck Elementary's academic excellence is undeniable, the school's student population is predominantly white, with over 93% of students identifying as such in the 2022-2023 school year. This lack of racial diversity may be an area for the school to consider addressing, as exposure to diverse perspectives and experiences can be valuable for student development. However, the school's exceptional support for students with special needs and disabilities, ranking among the top 56 out of 672 elementary schools in Massachusetts, is a notable strength that sets it apart from many other schools in the region, including nearby Hingham, Marshfield, Norwell, and Cohasset schools.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The education my kids receive at Wampatuck is excellent. We have been extremely happy with the teachers every year. The standards are high but the teachers give the kids every opportunity to achieve. Love the school garden for educational and nutritional benefit to the students. My kids really like the mini-miles program in walktober! We as parents are focusing on influencing the school to focus on better nutrition for school lunches and the reception has been great. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
