Luling Elementary School

Summary:

Luling Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 734 students in grades PK-5 in Luling, Louisiana, which is part of the St. Charles Parish school district. While the school has a diverse student population, its academic performance is generally in the middle range compared to other Louisiana elementary schools, with some notable strengths and areas for improvement.

One of Luling Elementary's key strengths is its strong performance in Mathematics, with 73% of all grades proficient or better in 2023-2024, compared to 79% for the St. Charles Parish district and 59% for Louisiana. However, the school's English Language Arts and Social Studies proficiency rates are lower than the district and state averages. Additionally, there are significant disparities in the performance of different student subgroups, with Hispanic students performing relatively well but students with disabilities and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds struggling.

Compared to nearby schools in the St. Charles Parish district, such as Norco Elementary and R.J. Vial Elementary, Luling Elementary's overall performance lags behind. These nearby schools consistently rank higher and have stronger test scores across all subject areas. The high percentage of students at Luling Elementary who receive free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 54.45% to 72.47%, may be a contributing factor to the school's lower performance, as socioeconomic status is often correlated with academic achievement.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote I transferred my kindergartner from another St. Charles Parish school to Luling Elementary half way through the year. The previous school pushed for my child to be medicated (to basically sedate him). After attending Luling he matured, developed and progressed. I am proud to say my son attends Luling Elementary!!! Open Quote This school has a terrible ranking, even after implementing social promotion to cover up masses of students who are failing.

Passing students who have straight F's for all four quarters is a travesty that lowers the standards for the entire school and robs children of a quality education. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
