North Washington Elementary School

Summary:

North Washington Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Willisburg, Kentucky, serving grades PK-8 with a total enrollment of 546 students. The school is part of the Washington County School District, which is ranked 69 out of 159 districts in Kentucky and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

North Washington Elementary School has maintained a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger over the past several years, with its ranking among Kentucky elementary schools ranging from 223 to 451 out of 517 to 700 schools, depending on the year. The school generally performs below the state and district averages in mathematics, reading, science, writing, and social studies assessments across various grade levels. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, the school's percentage of students proficient or better in mathematics ranged from 25% (4th grade) to 70% (7th grade), compared to the state averages of 43% (4th grade) to 39% (7th grade). Similarly, in reading, the school's proficiency rates ranged from 32% (4th grade) to 66% (7th grade), while the state averages were 50% (4th grade) to 47% (7th grade).

Despite the school's relatively high spending per student and lower student-teacher ratio, its academic performance is still below the state and district averages, as well as some nearby schools, such as Washington County Elementary School. However, North Washington Elementary School outperforms other nearby schools, such as Foster Heights Elementary School and Lebanon Elementary School. The school's high free and reduced lunch rates and lower performance on student group metrics may be contributing factors to its overall academic performance, and continued efforts to address these areas could be beneficial for the school and its students.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote North Washington Elementary School and Middle School (combined)is a little piece of heaven on earth. I have two children attending there after being home schooled for the first part of their lives. Due to the death of my husband and the huge changes in my life, I was forced into a position to enroll them into public school. My 6th grader, who does very well, had gaps in her curriculum and the teachers were very good about working with her and allowing her to catch up and catch on. Now in her second year, she is an honor roll student. My younger daughter has learning challenges. The entire staff worked with her, evaluated her and gave her a custom IEP that suits her learning needs. The faculty at NWES is like a beautiful family. They were the greatest comfort to me in a very difficult time of my life, and they continue to be so. 5 stars is not enough. There are not enough accolades for this school! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
