Murray Middle School

Summary:

Murray Middle School is a highly-ranked public middle school located in Murray, Kentucky, serving grades 4-8 with an enrollment of 653 students. As part of the Murray Independent School District, which is ranked 5th out of 159 districts in Kentucky and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger, Murray Middle School has consistently ranked among the top middle schools in the state over the past decade, placing as high as 3rd out of over 300 schools.

The school's students demonstrate exceptional academic performance across multiple subjects, with significantly higher percentages of students proficient or better in Mathematics, Reading, Science, Writing, Social Studies, and Editing/Mechanics compared to the state averages. Murray Middle School serves a diverse student body, with strong performance across different demographic groups, including female, male, African American, Hispanic, and multi-racial students. The school's performance for special education and low socioeconomic status students is also noteworthy, with rankings in the top 10-15% of Kentucky middle schools in these categories.

While Murray Middle School outperforms the nearby South Marshall Middle School across most academic metrics, the comparison to Calloway County Middle School is more nuanced. Calloway County Middle School also performs well, ranking in the top 15% of Kentucky middle schools, but still lags behind Murray Middle School in several key areas. The school's high per-student spending, low student-teacher ratio, and strong district support may all contribute to the exceptional performance of Murray Middle School, serving as a model for other schools looking to improve their academic outcomes.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Murray Middle School has been an incredible blessing to our 4th grader. I was concerned about having my 4th grader be in the same school as 7th and 8th graders, but it has never been an issue. The teachers are a good balance of caring and challenging. The administration have things under control and seem to love what they do which translates to a positive educational experience for all. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
