W B Muncy Elementary School

Summary:

W B Muncy Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in Wooton, Kentucky, part of the Leslie County School District, which is ranked 11th out of 159 districts in the state and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. With 238 students, W B Muncy Elementary has consistently outperformed the county and state averages in academic performance, particularly among its female, white, and low-income student subgroups.

The school's academic excellence is evident across subjects and grade levels. In 2023-2024, 83% of 7th graders were proficient or better in reading, compared to 64% for Leslie County and 47% statewide. In math, 83% of 7th graders were proficient, compared to 56% for the county and 39% for the state. This strong performance is even more impressive given the school's relatively high poverty rate, which has declined from 66.81% in 2020-2021 to 57.56% in 2022-2023.

Compared to nearby elementary schools, such as Stinnett Elementary and Hayes Lewis Elementary, W B Muncy Elementary stands out for its higher academic performance, higher per-student spending, and lower student-teacher ratio. This suggests the school may have access to greater resources and more favorable staffing conditions that contribute to its success, making it a standout choice for families in the Wooton area.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My child has attended WB Muncy Elementary for 2 years, and I certainly believe that it is a nurturing environment that is very conducive to the learning process. He has been well taken care of in every aspect: physically, educationally and socially. It takes a special concentrated effort by my family for my child to attend this school, we have to drive on a horrible road for a long way to get him there and back home. It has been worth the effort. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
