Westside Elementary's performance varies across different student subgroups, with male students generally outperforming female students, and White students and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds showing mixed results. The school's performance for special education students and disabled students has been relatively weaker, with rankings in the bottom half of the state. Additionally, the school has seen a significant increase in the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, from 39.58% in 2020-2021 to 57.14% in 2022-2023, suggesting a growing population of students from low-income families. Nearby schools, such as Eastside Elementary, Northside Elementary, and Southside Elementary, have generally performed at a similar or slightly lower level than Westside, while some schools outside the district, like Eastern Elementary and Northern Elementary in the Scott County district, have significantly outperformed Westside in academic achievement and statewide rankings.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote The school is certainly a small town school, but the principal knows the students by name and speaks to each one directly as they enter the school (or at least tries to), so does the janitor for that matter. My children went here until we moved to Florence, Ky, which was a bit of a culture shock for us. The schools in the district provide school supplies and have since my 12 year old started Kindergarten there. These teachers CARE. They all try so very hard. As this is a poorer area, you have some parents who are uneducated themselves and don't value their child's education enough to help them learn at home. My son was always motivated here and was basically a straight A student (maybe 4 b's in 5 years). I would recommend this school to anyone. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
