Open Quote My kids have attended Deming for several years and the teachers have always been incredibly friendly. I can't imagine my kids going to any other school in Terre Haute. The teachers are very supportive and accommodating to their students needs, and guide them in the direction to make good choices for themselves. All teacher at Deming want to see their students learn and succeed. Unfortunately, a lot of times there is a lack of parental involvement, which rolls over into the classroom and the students with non-involved parents (or parents who don't hold themselves or their children accountable) play the blame game like it is the school's fault. Any time I hear of parent complaints on the teachers or school, you can tell it's by those types of parents by the language they're using and how they present themselves. There is a lot of poverty in this school, but these teachers strive to make a difference in these student's lives and would give every student the shirt off their back or the meal out of their lunchbag to help them. Deming is a great school and we're going to miss it now that we're moving on to middle school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
