Boone Grove Middle School

Summary:

Boone Grove Middle School is a public middle school in Boone Grove, Indiana, serving 323 students in grades 6-8. The school is part of the MSD Boone Township school district, which is ranked 60 out of 381 districts in the state and has a 4-star rating.

While Boone Grove Middle School has a higher percentage of white students (78.33%) compared to nearby schools, it faces several challenges. The school has seen a significant increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 6.1% in 2020-2021 to 19.3% in 2022-2023, which is higher than the state average. Additionally, the school's proficiency rates on ILEARN English Language Arts and Math tests are generally lower than the state and district averages, particularly in Math, where the school's proficiency rates are significantly below the state and district levels. This suggests that the school's performance may be declining relative to other middle schools in the state, as evidenced by its drop in statewide ranking from 140 out of 470 Indiana middle schools in 2013-2014 to 154 out of 485 in the most recent 2023-2024 school year.

The rising percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch at Boone Grove Middle School, from 23.58% in 2020-2021 to 34.06% in 2022-2023, suggests that the school may be serving a more economically disadvantaged population, which could be contributing to the lower academic performance. Compared to nearby higher-performing schools like Liberty Intermediate School, Hobart Middle School, and schools in the Valparaiso Community Schools and Crown Point Community School Corp districts, Boone Grove Middle School's performance on ILEARN tests lags behind, suggesting the need for targeted strategies to improve student outcomes.

Open Quote Love this school! Everything about it: Principal to teachers, student body and parent involvement is exceptional! Strong emphasis placed on character development, respect for self and others, personal responsibility and accountability. The fact that this school also possesses strong, effective leadership, quality teachers, small student population, state-of-the-art technology and a safe environment, is the icing on the cake. Plenty of sports, clubs and extracurricular activities too. To have a child at a school where teachers place greater value on the individual academic growth of each student verses the "almighty" ISTEP scores which measures student achievement against a predetermined "norm", is a revelation. Best kept secret in NWIN public education! As a parent and respected education advocate, I would highly recommend this school!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
