Greenwood Northeast Elementary School

Summary:

Greenwood Northeast Elementary School is a public elementary school in Greenwood, Indiana, serving students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Greenwood Community School Corporation.

While the school has a diverse student population, with a majority of white students and significant percentages of Hispanic, Asian, and multiracial students, its academic performance lags behind both its district peers and neighboring school districts. Greenwood Northeast's proficiency rates in English Language Arts (40.09%) and Math (44.05%) for all grades are lower than the Greenwood Community School Corporation (47.02% and 45.39%, respectively) and the state of Indiana. For example, Westwood Elementary School, also in the Greenwood district, had significantly higher proficiency rates in both subjects. The school also faces challenges with high chronic absenteeism, rising from 9.2% in 2020-2021 to 15.8% in 2022-2023, which is notably higher than other schools in the district.

Greenwood Northeast Elementary School serves a socioeconomically disadvantaged population, with 82.47% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2022-2023 school year, a much higher rate than nearby schools like Grassy Creek Elementary School (58.93%) and Westwood Elementary School (46.14%). This suggests the need for targeted interventions and additional resources to support the school's high-needs population and improve student outcomes.

Open Quote No diversity. The leadership has to the worse, I have dealt with. I filed a complaint on them, next thing I know they lying saying I was sending my child to school with just applesauce(his snack) as his nutritional meal, although he has been eating a hot tray from school since the beginning of the school year and has 38 dollars active on his account. Whew, if this ain't libel and slander, I'm confused. I asked to incorporate some learning into my son classroom to help him with reading (a bookmark) and was told its one teacher and 20 students. A teacher who has her own child in the classroom may I mention, therefore the accommodation for that child learning is probably being met every step of the way. A teacher that will communicated negative behavior but no progress of positive progression, which bothers me, because we shouldn't only communicate when its negative about the student. A point I made to the principle but her big head ass didn't understand that. Want advise on GNES go somewhere else where your kid can learn and succeed. Close Quote

Open Quote Northeast Elementary is a great school. I am involved with both of my kids' teachers/classes. There has never been a teacher I didn't love! My kids love them as well, which makes my heart happy. Lots of extra activities the school and PTO organize.
It seems like everyone there genuinely care about the kids and do their best for our children. Love Northeast!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
