Heritage Community Charter

I've been a parent at this school for over 3 years. I normally don't leave reviews, but happened to glance at this on google while searching for the time tonight's evening event started. After reading the reviews I was shocked at the misinformation. :( My children's teachers are all certified, and so are all of the other teachers. I don't know why someone would say that. The school has great people in the front office and our experience has been wonderful there. Not just for me, but all the mom's and kids I know at the school. Sure, they're smaller than some schools, but that's why we came here. The principal is great and can be easily reached if I have a question or concern about absolutely anything. He's very supportive. The teachers are supportive and helpful. They do communicate, though mostly email, but afterschool is the best time for me to call. My middle-school child has plenty of elective choices, sports program, and even is in student council. The school has many activities for families throughout the year and it's easy to see why so many of my friends love this school!
My oldest graduated from Heritage and has excelled in High School. Heritage prepared my child much better than the previous school I was at.
It sounds like the other reviews are likely parent who withdrew because they were angry about something, and are purposefully trying to be hurtful. They have great info on their website if anyone wants to study it out better.

This school is the "throw away" school for students who are removed from public schools in the area! There are no advanced courses, elective choices, opportunities for students to be individuals! Within a single classroom there may be very low-functioning students, kids with discipline issues, and gifted-and-talented students trying to be instructed by a (often non-certified) teacher not trained or prepared to deal with all of these students in one class! Not to mention....the ratio of students is not 21-1....it is more like 30+-1. This school is a joke! If this is how a "classical" school is run, count my kids out! I have already pulled them out of this dysfunctional environment!

My son has had a great year and half so far at Heritage. He was needing more challenge than his neighborhood school was able to provide. Heritage provides a well-rounded education including social studies (history and geography), science, reading, grammar, and spelling in both Spanish and English, as well as math on a daily basis. They also are able to include art into their lessons quite frequently. It is very encouraging to have my son engaged, learning about so many different things, and learning a second language, too! He often talks about what they are learning in History, including Mesopotamia in 1st grade, and has already learned about Ancient India, China, Egypt, and Greece (including Greek mythology, which he loved!) in second grade.

No school is perfect, and no school can perfectly fit each and every child, but I feel that my son's needs are being met. He is challenged, he enjoys school, has good friends, and likes his teachers. I really appreciate the approach to learning and teaching that the staff at Heritage takes. We are very happy with our decision to switch schools.

Would strongly recommend looking at the school budget . Be aware that your students will not receive special education unless it was evaluated elsewhere. They also had an uncertified sub for Sped for 4 months in 2013. They do not spend the money and will not follow the law. There will be fraudulent information and negligence. Several families have discussed these downfalls. Although they try to instill "core characteristics," many of the staff fall short of the teaching. There are some really great staff members. Look out though, some teachers do not communicate even when multiple efforts in different formats are attempted. Some are not state certified. They had a rough start last year. It is very disappointing that they still do not seem to have it together. Try different options if you are able.
