Lehua Elementary School has a diverse student population, with a significant percentage of Pacific Islander (29.73%) and Hispanic (20.46%) students. However, the school's academic performance, as measured by the Smarter Balanced Assessments and Hawaii State Assessments, is generally lower than the nearby high-performing schools like Momilani Elementary and Pearl Ridge Elementary. Lehua Elementary also has a relatively high chronic absenteeism rate of 28.0% and a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch (50.97%) compared to the nearby schools.

Despite these challenges, Lehua Elementary School performs well in certain student subgroups, such as Hispanic students and White students. Additionally, the school's proximity to several high-performing elementary schools in the area presents opportunities for collaboration and learning from their best practices. Addressing the socioeconomic and attendance-related factors could be crucial in improving Lehua Elementary's overall academic outcomes and providing a more equitable educational experience for its diverse student population.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote To the comment above/below... yes Lehua became the 1st Lighthouse on Oahu. I too believe the Leader in Me program is amazing. Not sure how the ratings thing works, but I think the school, faculty, upkeep and atmosphere is great! My wife and I will be sad to pull our daughter when its time to move. Keep up the good work Lehua!! Close Quote

Open Quote They have a great leadership program, The Leader in Me. Students are taught the 8 Habits. The school's faculty takes the students where they are at and instills leadership skills through the use of the Habits of Success. Hopefully they will be the first Lighthouse school in Hawaii. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
