Open Quote For full disclosure, I have been a teacher at WCA for a year and a half now. That being said, please don't discount my thoughts for that reason alone. To speak briefly as a faculty member, my sense of community among my fellow teachers and overall happiness at work is such that I would decline moving to another school in the area even if a pay raise were offered. I enjoy coming to school each day. Our student body takes pride in academic strength and achievement; students who have an "I don't care about school" attitude would have a hard time fitting in here. On the other hand, our student body seems generous and makes room for every new student who is making a good effort to get along and be part of the school. It makes me wish I had attended middle school here. Our upper school Bible study programs are helmed by two men for whom I have a deep respect and trust in their teaching. The Gospel is not something stapled on to the side of the school in a chapel service or obligatory Bible class but is the axle around which our efforts, affections, and worldview revolve. Christ, crucified for sinners, reconciles his people to the Father's justice by his atoning death and secures our justification by his resurrection. We can both approach education itself as knowing the Creator better through the creation and approach each child as someone made in the image of God, worthy of respect, no matter what difficulties are present. Being a small private school nearly 25 years old has a few particular drawbacks, but they are to be expected. Although Westminster has expanded slowly, we have done so in a way that allows us to approach or attain excellence in our programs before we take on another, rather than a slew of offerings all approaching mediocrity. Our girls' cross country, boys' baseball, mock trial, one-act play, and other programs have all competed at or won in state level competitions for our division. Being a young school means we still frequently ask for help within our community from generous volunteers; to me, one of the strengths of this phase is that families and faculty both know that the school is still in the growing and building process. This allows a certain sense of ownership over growth and development. WCA has been a great move for me and my family. Given the choice on enrolling my children anywhere in the area, I would still choose WCA. My son is in the Pre-K program this year and we have every intention of re-enrolling. My parent impressions of my lower school peers have been courteous and professional. Communication from the Pre-K teacher and assistant is clear and helpful. My son likes coming to school and is on the verge of tears when he has a sick day. My teaching peers in the middle school and high school give me great pride as a colleague and great hope for the education of my children here. Close Quote

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
