The school also serves a more economically diverse student population, with a lower percentage of free and reduced lunch recipients (33.78% in 2022-2023) compared to some nearby schools.

Chestnut Mountain Elementary School's proximity to Spout Springs Elementary School, a high-performing school with a 4-star rating, may provide opportunities for collaboration and shared best practices. Open Quote My son has been attending Chestnut Mountain for a year now. Their principal is deffinately the best I have ever seen in any school. You will never find him just sitting at his desk, he personaly evaluates every class, interact with students, teachers and parents. My son is a tough kid to teach. He is an extremely stubborn child, but is so happy at Chestnut Mountain and as a kindergarten student is already reading, writing and doing math on a 1st grade level. I do not understand why this school is ranked this low! I know 3 parents that have tried to get the school board to move their children over from CW Davis, Martin and Oakwood elementary. This is the reason I believe reviews etc, doesn't matter. Because my first hand experience with this school is different from the 3 star rating. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
