Huddleston Elementary School

Summary:

Huddleston Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Peachtree City, Georgia, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 607 students. The school is part of the Fayette County School District, which is ranked 9th out of 203 districts in Georgia and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. Huddleston Elementary has a history of strong performance, with a statewide ranking that has ranged from 80th to 227th out of over 1,200 Georgia elementary schools in recent years, and a consistent 4- or 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Huddleston Elementary consistently outperforms the state average in the percentage of students proficient or better on the Georgia Milestones assessments for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. The school also has a relatively low percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 27.51% to 31.06% in recent years, which is lower than the state average. Additionally, Huddleston has a higher per-student spending level than the state average, ranging from $9,665 to $10,832 in recent years, and a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.5 to 15.1 in recent years.

While Huddleston Elementary is a high-performing school, it is not the top-performing school in the immediate area. Schools like Crabapple Lane Elementary, Peeples Elementary, and Braelinn Elementary consistently outperform Huddleston on test scores and statewide rankings. Additionally, the school's relatively low free/reduced lunch rate suggests a student population with higher socioeconomic status, which may contribute to its academic success. However, the school could still explore ways to address potential opportunity gaps and continue to improve its performance.

Open Quote Avoid this school. It’s not nurturing since the new Principal arrived, it’s declined significantly. Bullying is rampant, and communication is poor among teachers, the principal, and parents. While some teachers are great, at least three of my child’s teachers were terrible at communication and sometimes rude. Teachers manage about 20 students per class and seem too busy to listen or address individual needs properly. Their communication with parents is often unclear, rude, or dry, leading to misunderstandings. Policies are fear-based rather than supportive, neglecting real-life skills, conflict resolution, and mental health. There’s a lack of focus on nurturing self-discipline and respect. The school’s environment fosters anxiety, stress, and low self-esteem, with no celebration of diversity. Kids are pressured by test scores and ratings, worsening their stress and undermining trust. The school needs a more competent team and better time management to support special needs students effectively. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
