Grovetown Elementary School

Summary:

Grovetown Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-5 in Grovetown, Georgia, with 979 students. It is part of the Columbia County School District, which is ranked 16th out of 203 districts in the state and has a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger. However, Grovetown Elementary has maintained a 3-star rating over the past several years.

Grovetown Elementary's test scores on the Georgia Milestones assessments are consistently lower than the Columbia County and state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2023-2024, only 34.6% of 3rd graders were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to 58.9% in the district and 38.4% statewide. Additionally, the school has a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 48.24% to 55.46% over the past few years, which is higher than the district average. Grovetown Elementary's per-student spending has also been lower than the spending levels of some nearby schools in the district, and it has a slightly higher student-teacher ratio.

When comparing Grovetown Elementary to other elementary schools in the Columbia County district, it is clear that the school is underperforming. For example, Martinez Elementary, Euchee Creek Elementary, Lewiston Elementary, and Baker Place Elementary all have significantly higher test scores and state rankings than Grovetown Elementary. This suggests that the school's lower academic performance may be related to the higher rates of economic disadvantage and fewer resources available compared to its peers.

Open Quote I only give one start because 0 isn’t an option.
The school allows students to be insulted and mistreated and sometimes it’s the staff picking at a child. I can’t imagine knowingly mistreating a child with autism but they seemed to enjoy it. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
