Open Quote Run now and save yourself the trouble of running later.

The workplace is toxic, the head of school is abusive, and you will be traumatized if you work there. Your children will be traumatized by the abusive environment.

The head of school is terrible at her job but somehow continues to return. Teachers are afraid to speak up or contact the board, and she does her best to keep rumors from reaching her superiors. There are rumors of her filtering the email chains so that complaints do not reach her superiors.

She intimidates the teachers and students through passive aggression and veiled threats. She tells her employees that she needs complete and total submission from them. She fires anyone who questions her ideas, with or without reason.

She tells her boss, the school founder, that she is organizing the school's administrative structure and offering teachers administrative promotions as incentives. The truth is that her evaluations are ineffective. If she knows teachers are leaving she gives them bad evaluations to make it hard for them to find other jobs.

She claims that she has created a flow of communication that moves from teachers all the way up to the founder. The problem is that the founder only receives "data" that comes from the structure (and its creator, the head of school) itself, but not from individuals inside the structure. This means that the data is created by people who have a conflict of interest. They use data to make it appear that they are doing a good job and that the employees are negative and overly-critical, when they are upset that they are not being treated well.

She compiles files on her employees in case she ever wants to destroy their reputations.

Between 50 and 30 of the staff has to be replaced every year, because people quit in droves every year.

Asking administrators for help makes every problem worse. Close Quote

Open Quote We switched from another charter school and have had a great experience for the last year. The staff is friendly, the communication is great, and my son comes home telling me about all the things he learned. After hearing him tell me how much he hated school every day at his last school we are so pleased to see how much he enjoys learning here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
