Palm Beach Maritime Academy Elementary

Summary:

Palm Beach Maritime Academy Elementary is a public charter elementary school in Lantana, Florida, serving 596 students from kindergarten to 5th grade as part of the Palm Beach school district.

While the school has a more diverse student population compared to nearby schools, with a student body that is 46.64% Hispanic, 32.72% African American, and 16.11% White, it faces significant challenges. Palm Beach Maritime Academy Elementary has a much higher chronic absenteeism rate of 33.8% compared to the district and state averages, and consistently underperforms on standardized tests across all grade levels and subject areas. Over the past several years, the school's statewide ranking has steadily declined, from 1330 out of 2064 Florida elementary schools in 2013-2014 to 1576 out of 2256 in 2023-2024. This trend suggests that the school's performance is not improving and may be falling behind its peers.

When compared to nearby schools, such as Imagine Schools Chancellor Campus, Palm Beach Maritime Academy Elementary generally performs worse on standardized tests and has higher chronic absenteeism rates. Additionally, the school serves a predominantly low-income student population, with 81.88% to 90.18% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch over the past few years, which may contribute to the challenges the school faces in academic performance.

Open Quote Terrible school no school books for the kids to study from . School has a bigger focus on social issues especially lgbt since half the student body identifies as. Racial tension no academic focus sad for the kids . I have made numerous in person trips too the school to speak with admin and everything false on half listening mostly deaf ears. My child got a report card that had been issued based on false grades entered by a language arts teacher who addresses the children by bro and swears openly called a child asshole Close Quote

Open Quote PBMA is filled with teachers that really care about the children. They offer extra help to students that need it and push children to their full potential through support, expectations and determination. Curriculum meets and exceeds that of the Palm Beach County School District and field trips are hands on and relavent to Maritime industries.

A quuality school that offers a quality education. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
