Open Quote A few years ago this was an extraordinary elementary school. It still has a great philosophy, but in practice resources have been diverted from the elementary students to support the addition of middle school students, and next year they will be adding high school students to the same campus. The elementary classes are overcrowded--some with 26 students in a class! Fine arts classes have as many as 70 students. In dance there are too many kids for them to move around, so they watch movies. In violin the classes are so packed the kids barely have room to play their instruments without hitting the person next to them. There is little support for students who fall at the bottom or the top of the pack. Advanced and gifted children are placed with the general population and left to boredom. Children with learning disabilities are also given no additional support. The school's ESE coordinator is impossible to work with. There is no homework, but also limited feedback from teachers. Some parents have no idea their child is having difficulty in reading or math until 3rd grade when they perform poorly on the state mandated test. Imagine being told your child has to attend summer school after the third grade because he or she failed the state test when no teacher had ever told you that your child was underperforming. Sending home a little homework or some graded assignments would prevent that kind of blindsiding. Close Quote

Open Quote We are new to this school. It`s a SHAME that my 7 year old has witnessed and heard things unheard of and aways tells us "all the bad kids have dark skin, why?"
Examples...... Eating my son`s lunch when he goes to the bathroom, punching "white girls"in the stomach, talking about their fathers in PRISON, foul language and middle fingers... I can go on and on... Did I mention these are only 7 year olds?!!!! This school needs to change its zone. Close Quote

Open Quote Very poorly run school. Just because it is a choice program does not make it good. Large test score drop in 2017 and that is because the teachers here are not passionate about what they do . Seems like the teachers that cant find a job anywhere come here and they are miserable. Lots of bullying and violence and nothing is done about it!!! If you want your child to learn an instrument music lessons would be much better than this place? Save yourself the headache and go private if you can this is just a below average Fl public school. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
