Flora Ridge Elementary School

Summary:

Flora Ridge Elementary School is a public elementary school in Kissimmee, Florida, serving 1,043 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Osceola School District, which is ranked 58 out of 68 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Despite increased funding, Flora Ridge Elementary has consistently struggled, with high chronic absenteeism rates (up to 41.2%), significantly lower test scores than the district and state averages across all grade levels and subjects, and a statewide ranking in the bottom 10-20% of Florida elementary schools, earning a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger. In comparison, nearby schools like Hunters Creek Elementary in Orange County have higher test scores, lower absenteeism, and better statewide rankings.

The high percentage of students from low-income families at Flora Ridge Elementary, ranging from 50.53% to 60.88% receiving free or reduced-price lunch, may be a contributing factor to the school's underperformance. While the school has maintained a relatively low student-teacher ratio, the lack of improvement in academic outcomes suggests that addressing the root causes of attendance issues and providing targeted academic support will be crucial for helping Flora Ridge Elementary better serve its students.

Open Quote I have two of my children attending Flora Ridge. Its their first year in Flora Ridge and I can tell its the worst school that my kids are attended. We come from Lee vista area and schools there are great. Orange county schools its much much better than osceola. The school staff are very rude and have a horrible attitude with parents and they dont know was going on in the school. School dismissal is terrible.... In overall a gave -0 to this school and the school grade comes from D to C OMG!!! HORRIBLE Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
