Westbrooke Elementary

Summary:

Westbrooke Elementary is a public elementary school in Ocoee, Florida, serving 533 students in grades PK-5. As part of the Orange County School District, Westbrooke stands out for its consistently high academic performance, diverse student population, and commitment to student success.

Westbrooke Elementary consistently outperforms the district and state averages in standardized test scores, with 5th-grade science proficiency at 81% compared to 61% for the district and 53% for the state. The school's 3rd-grade English Language Arts and Math proficiency rates are also significantly higher than the district and state. Westbrooke's diverse student population, with a balanced racial composition, contrasts with some nearby schools like Citrus Elementary and Windermere Elementary. While Westbrooke has seen fluctuations in chronic absenteeism, its most recent rate of 21.9% is still lower than some neighboring schools like Metrowest Elementary and William Frangus Elementary.

Westbrooke Elementary's strong academic performance, with a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger, is particularly noteworthy given its diverse student population and relatively high percentage of free/reduced-price lunch recipients. While Westbrooke outperforms many nearby schools, other high-performing schools in the area, such as Lake Whitney Elementary and Thornebrooke Elementary, suggest a strong community commitment to education in the region. Addressing the factors contributing to Westbrooke's fluctuating chronic absenteeism rate could be an area of focus for the school to further improve student outcomes.

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
