Ocoee Middle

Summary:

Ocoee Middle is a public middle school in Ocoee, Florida, serving 1,192 students in grades 6-8 as part of the Orange County School District. While the school consistently outperforms the district and state averages in several academic areas, it faces challenges with high chronic absenteeism rates and relatively lower spending per student compared to some of the higher-performing nearby schools.

Ocoee Middle excels in several key test areas, including end-of-course exams in Algebra 1, Geometry, and Civics, where the school's proficiency rates are significantly higher than the Orange County and Florida state averages. However, the school's performance in 8th grade Science lags behind the district and state. Ocoee Middle's diverse student population, with a roughly even split between White, African American, and Hispanic students, is not reflected in all the nearby schools, which tend to have more homogeneous populations.

While Ocoee Middle outperforms the district and state in many areas, it faces challenges that may be impacting its overall performance. The school's high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 24.3% to 36.5% over the past few years, is significantly higher than the state average and may be contributing to its relatively lower performance compared to some of the higher-performing nearby schools, such as Sunridge Middle. Additionally, Ocoee Middle's spending per student, ranging from $7,675 to $8,676 over the past few years, is on the lower end compared to some of the nearby schools, which may also be a factor in the school's performance.

Open Quote I hate this school. I have drove up early to drop my child off for tutoring, and a child randomly screamed EXTREMELY bad curse words. The teachers don't care about the students being innapropriate or cursing, and overall i DO NOT recommend it. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
