Open Quote The Principal unfairly and harshly punished the two children and I believe, deliberately, for simply playing with each other in the hallway in a fashion that displayed friendship, camaraderie and playfulness. This and other types of playfulness, as you know, helps build and solidify friendships at school.

We understand the importance of adherence to school rules and I believe in rules are needed for effective learning to occur, as well as the children learning in a social setting. In these aforementioned incidences, it is my wholehearted belief that the boys were unfairly targeted and that permanent change must occur at Edwins Elementary School.

I find the leadership at Edwin severely lacking in humility and respect for parents. Given the recent, egregious and horrendous behaviors of several now-imprisoned teachers/staff members of Okaloosa School District and the shock of the behaviors of former Superintendent Mary Beth Jackson, I would think the administration at all schools in the county would wish to convey an overall tone of openness, honesty, respect and integrity toward the parents of the children they serve, yet do not find the current administration at Edwins upholding their oaths as good leaders. About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
