Saddlewood Elementary School

Summary:

Saddlewood Elementary School is a public elementary school in Ocala, Florida, serving 917 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the Marion School District, which is ranked 61 out of 68 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. However, Saddlewood Elementary has maintained a 3-star rating over the past several years.

Saddlewood Elementary stands out for its diverse student population, with a higher percentage of Hispanic (31.19%) and Asian (5.67%) students compared to nearby schools. The school also outperforms the district and state averages in test scores, particularly in Math. For example, in 2023-2024, 62% of 3rd graders, 53% of 4th graders, and 60% of 5th graders at Saddlewood were proficient or better in FAST Math, compared to 51%, 50%, and 47% for the Marion district, respectively. However, the school has a higher chronic absenteeism rate (27.4% in 2022-2023) compared to the state average, which is a concern.

Saddlewood Elementary generally outperforms the nearby schools, such as College Park Elementary, Wyomina Park Elementary, and South Ocala Elementary, in test scores, particularly in Math. This suggests that Saddlewood is a relatively strong-performing school within the Marion School District, despite the district's lower overall ranking. The school's diverse student population is an asset that can be leveraged to provide a more inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment.

Open Quote Don't get me wrong it's a good school. Some of the teachers are good and my kids safety is somewhat good. I love how they have the gates that's what I love I have 3 children attending the school ..

. But let's talk about the negative....
The car line in the morning is so slow... They complain if your child is late after sitting in that Carline waiting for them to move and it makes the student late so they have to go to the front office and do a late tardy There new policy is this year every 3 late unexcused turns into a unexcused absence.. WTH. So now I park my car in the car line in the front of the school and walk my kids in the front office to go to class, but what else happens I get bitched at .... I'm sorry I'm tired of my kids being late over that Carline... I'm the one that's getting the warning about them being late. They keep threatening me saying if there late or unexcused absence then I'll have to go to court. WTF. I'm to the point of calling the superintendent of Marion county schools. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
