Sail High School stands out among the nearby high schools in Tallahassee, with its strong academic performance, high graduation rates, and relatively diverse student population. The school consistently outperforms the Leon District and the state of Florida in various standardized test scores, including End-of-Course (EOC) exams and the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) assessments. For example, in the 2023-2024 school year, Sail had 70% of 10th-grade students proficient or better in FAST English Language Arts, compared to 53% for the Leon District and the state. Additionally, Sail has maintained high four-year graduation rates, ranging from 93.1% to 97.9% over the past five years, significantly higher than the 93.1% rate at Lincoln High School and the 82.3% rate at James Rickards High School.

While Sail has a relatively high-performing student population, it still serves a significant percentage of students from low-income families, with 32.55% of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch in the 2022-2023 school year. This suggests that the school is able to provide a quality education to students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Additionally, Sail has a higher per-student spending of $10,535 in the 2022-2023 school year, compared to the nearby schools, which range from $7,175 to $8,678 per student, and a lower student-teacher ratio of 19:1, compared to the nearby schools, which range from 22.3:1 to 24.9:1. These factors may contribute to Sail's strong academic performance and high graduation rates.

Open Quote Went here from 2014-2018. Freshman/Sophmore years were fine, everything went downhill in Junior year when there was a rampant Neo-Nazi problem and the administration refused to deal with it.
I loved the teachers dearly, except one. The real problem was with the administration. They not only allowed a Neo-Nazi student to be Student Body Vice President, they let 3/4 students who made a human swastika stay, only expelling one. They let students yell "Kill all Jews" in the hallways with no repercussions, while they bullied the students who showed concern - My senior year schedule was all sorts of messed up, even when seniors supposedly get priority when it comes to class assignments.
Tiffany needs to be fired. There was gross antisemitic behavior on her part. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
