Allen Park Elementary School

Summary:

Allen Park Elementary School is a public elementary school serving around 900 students in grades PK-5 in Fort Myers, Florida, which is part of the Lee District. While the school has a diverse student population, with higher percentages of African American and Hispanic students compared to nearby schools, it faces significant challenges, including high chronic absenteeism, low test scores, and a declining performance trend.

Allen Park's test scores are consistently lower than the Lee District and Florida state averages across all grade levels and subjects. For example, in 2023-2024, only 33% of 3rd graders were proficient in English Language Arts, compared to 48% in the district and 55% statewide. Additionally, the school has experienced a sharp increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 14.0% in 2019-2020 to 38.3% in 2022-2023, which is notably higher than the nearby schools like Tanglewood Elementary School and Edison Park Creative And Expressive Arts School.

The high rates of chronic absenteeism and free/reduced lunch at Allen Park may be contributing to the school's lower academic performance. Additionally, the school's declining ranking and star rating over the years suggest that it is facing systemic challenges that need to be addressed. While Allen Park's student population is more diverse, the nearby higher-performing schools have significantly better test scores and lower chronic absenteeism rates, indicating that there is a clear opportunity for Allen Park to implement targeted interventions and strategies to improve student outcomes.

Open Quote As a parent and a teacher at Allen Park, I can tell you that this school and it's teachers are dedicated to academic excellence and the mental, emotional, and character growth of their students. The opportunities for students to explore the world around them abound with a particular focus on developing 21st Century Skills. I highly recommend touring our school and seeing for yourself what makes Allen Park stand out from the crowd. Close Quote

Open Quote Sub par, the placing of academic performance is old school and doesn't allow the children to interact with different children. They are tracked according to performance and basically the low stay low and the high stay high, sad state of education. However, I gave it an extra star because my child is in the advanced and receives more than the lower performance classrooms. Still wish is was equal to all. Close Quote

Open Quote Allen Park Elementary is a "hidden treasure" of learning. The students are placed in classrooms based on their academic performance. My child has made huge gains because she is placed with students that learn at her level/speed. She is a 4th grader and reads above grade level and performs above grade level in math. This allows her teacher to focus on enrichment activities, project based learning, and she loves the challenge. The teachers contact us all the time with great stories and successes. I feel comfortable going to the school for activities... The staff cares about the students. I will be sad in a few years when we are forced to go to Middle School. It will be tough to top ALLEN PARK Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
