Tamarac Elementary School

Summary:

Tamarac Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 626 students in grades PK-5 in Tamarac, Florida, which is part of the Broward County school district. While the school shares some demographic similarities with nearby schools like Morrow Elementary and North Lauderdale Elementary, it faces significant challenges related to student demographics, chronic absenteeism, and academic performance.

Tamarac Elementary has a notably higher percentage of African American students (48.56%) compared to the surrounding schools, which range from 23.43% to 80.06% African American. The school has also experienced a concerning increase in chronic absenteeism, rising from 10.9% in 2019-2020 to 36.4% in 2022-2023, which is notably higher than the 17.2% to 39.3% range at nearby schools. Academically, Tamarac Elementary's proficiency rates on state assessments are generally lower than the Broward County and Florida state averages across grade levels and subject areas.

While Tamarac Elementary has seen a steady increase in per-student spending, rising from $9,355 in 2019-2020 to $13,008 in 2022-2023, this increased funding has not translated into commensurate improvements in academic performance. The combination of a high percentage of minority students, high poverty rates, and lower academic outcomes at Tamarac Elementary suggests potential equity issues that warrant further investigation and targeted interventions to address the school's challenges and improve student outcomes.

Open Quote the principal doesn't work with you are your child. I also heard from other parents she is very rude and is not a good leader. The teachers are always away at staff meetings or some type of training. This school is going downhill for sure if they dont get a better leader and teachers. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
