Hillcrest Elementary School

Summary:

Hillcrest Elementary School is a public elementary school in Northglenn, Colorado, serving 391 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Adams 12 Five Star Schools district, which is ranked 53 out of 116 districts in the state.

Hillcrest Elementary faces significant challenges compared to nearby schools. It has a much higher percentage of Hispanic students (77.75%) than surrounding schools, which range from 41.83% to 72.21% Hispanic. Academically, Hillcrest consistently ranks in the bottom 10-20% of Colorado elementary schools and has proficiency rates on state assessments that are significantly lower than district and state averages. The school also has an extremely high percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, ranging from 80.56% to 85.12% over the past three years, much higher than the 40.24% to 87.2% range of nearby schools. Additionally, Hillcrest has a relatively high student-teacher ratio, ranging from 13.7 to 15.6, which is higher than most of the surrounding Rocky Mountain Elementary School, Leroy Elementary, Sunset Ridge Pk-8, and other nearby schools.

These factors suggest that Hillcrest Elementary faces significant challenges in terms of academic achievement, with consistently low performance, large proficiency gaps, high poverty concentration, and potential staffing challenges. Addressing these issues will likely require a comprehensive, data-driven approach to improve the educational outcomes for the students at Hillcrest.

As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My children had attended Hillcrest Elementary School for 3 years and I loved the teachers and their individual time they gave to my kids. They loved my kids as they were their own and always treated me with full respect. I was informed on everything that was going on with my children even after school hours. They had nothing but positive things to say about my kids and when or if suggestions were needed they were always positive with the negative to help myself as well as my kids grow in a positive way. Thank you Hillcrest Staff!!! Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
